Fitness Committee
April 24, 2024
Members met to discuss plans for a second fitness week -- May 6-9, to include an awards ceremony, May 10, 2024.
Teachers selected a time in which their students will be pulled out of class for a 30-minute fitness test, and a schedule was made.
Arrangements for health professionals to provide screening services are being sought after for this week also.
It was agreed that there would not be enough time after lunch to host a Healthy Food Fair this year, as the period after lunch is served (one and one-half hours) does not provide enough time for the service of over 200 students.
April 19, 2024
Member of GIA community met with students during their lunch period to inform of the dangers of eating at a certain fast food chain. Specifically, the handling of pork items were mixed with non-pork items, which are not allowed in Islam.
April 17, 2024
The LWP Committee (Ms. Jalilah, Ms. Ali, Mr. Ali, and Mr. Nurudeen) met to review the 2021 LWP.
Committee agreed to revise it before the end of the 2023-24 school year.
Committed agreed to host Health Food Fair 4/25 or 4/26/2024 in the cafeteria, after lunch.

Updated school web page to include health curriculum for grades 1 through 8.
Added International Food Day Event - May 3, 2024
Added Healthy Food Day.
April 15, 2024
Created Wellness Program Committee
GIA board member briefed on Wellness Program and goals.
Developed an list of events for the remaining school year.
Presented ideas for upcoming school year to principal, LWP Manager, and Board member.
